It is a genuine work of design conceived by Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake from the elements of nature itself. Roca describes the collection as drawing from “the curve of waves, the ever-changing horizon, and the purest form of design, the egg” and the Ohtake basin carries every one of those references in its form. The profile is unmistakably oval, but it is an oval that has been observed rather than drawn; asymmetric, alive, with a shallow one-sided taper at the rear that recalls the elliptical section of a wave just before it breaks.
